July 2, 2024 – Viva has issued a voluntary recall of one lot of Turkey recipes, including Viva Pure Turkey for Dogs & Cats
Viva Beef & Turkey for Puppies, Viva Turkey for Dogs Ground, and Viva Turkey for Dogs Chunked due to potential listeria monocytogenes contamination.
What You Need to Know About Listeria Monocytogenes Poisoning
Listeria monocytogenes infections in pets are rare but can cause signs like diarrhea, anorexia, fever, nervous, muscular and respiratory issues, miscarriage, depression, shock, and death. Pets can be carriers even without signs, spreading the bacteria through their feces and saliva to their environment and other pets or people. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and shows signs, contact your veterinarian.Important Message for People Who Handled These Foods
There is a risk to humans from handling these contaminated foods, especially if they have not washed their hands after having contact with the products or surfaces exposed to these pet foods. Healthy people infected with Listeria monocytogenes may experience symptoms like nausea, vomiting, aches, fever, and diarrhea. The infection can spread to the nervous system, causing meningitis and other serious illnesses. Pregnant women, the young, elderly, and those with weak immune systems are especially vulnerable. If you show signs of infection after contact with recalled products or a pet that has consumed them, contact your healthcare provider.Dog Foods Recalled
The recalled dog food is lot number 21244, distributed as single frozen 1lb bricks in clear vacuum packaging. The affected lot was shipped to customers between 05/16/24 and 06/28/24. The lot includes the following recipes:- Viva Pure Turkey for Dogs & Cats
